The Beachworth Baker
Tom O'Toole presents.
I arrived as Tom was ranting
and raving on the stage.
Those laughs
came one a minute,
as the crowd turned every page.
He spoke about his journey
'bout his philosophy on life,
and about that
Beachworth bakery
with his 'trouble and his strife'.
His words flowed all together
it was hard to pick them out.
Yet clear
with Irish timbre
'walk the talk' oft came the shout.
But more than words were spoken
as he pranced and waved his arms.
His earthy
words uncensored:
'Live with bloody passion' - he charms.
Most left there light and easy
saying, he had made their day,
but for me
this Beachworth baker
has forever changed my way.
God bless you baker Tom O'Toole
may your passion never wane,
for you have shown
our troubled times,
need not be lived in vain.

(I wrote the poem one morning soon after Tom spoke to us teachers at Southbank
Institute of Technology in
Brisbane in 2006. I teach (and practice)
entrepreneurship and I loved Tom's presentation and talk. I have sat on the poem
for the past year or so but I thought that it was time to send it to him the
other day.)
